Our Story

We are glad you have chosen The Neighborhood Child Care Center…

We are glad you have chosen The Neighborhood Child Care Center in Winslow or Vassalboro to care for your

family.  This child care center focuses on child-initiated programming and provides careful supervision

by caregivers who truly enjoy being with children.  The State of Maine Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Child and Family Services issue our license, which is renewed every two years with quarterly reviews and mid-cycle inspections.  The Neighborhood Child Care Center (Formerly the Winslow Before/After Program) is a three-time award-winning program dedicated to providing excellent care for your family.  In 1996 the program received an award from The Maine Department of Education called “Making the Grade” for the innovative ways community members are invited to share talents and special projects with children.  Also in 2006, the center received an award from The Maine Afterschool Network for its impact on children, families, and the

community as a whole.  We were honored at the Hall of Flags at the Maine State Capital complete with media attention. And last, but most importantly, we received National Accreditation Status from the National AfterSchool Association in 2008 and recently renewed our accreditation status with the Council on Accreditation in 2014.  This is a recognition that is renewed every four years and follows strict guidelines for continuous quality improvement in programming for children and families in our community.  The center hopes to complete accreditation once again once the pandemic has subsided. The center received a Silver award from The Healthy Maine Partnerships Coalition – 5210 Let’s Go! program for its impact on children, families, and the community as a whole with regard to physical activity and nutrition awareness.  A new Wellness Policy was created from this information which can be found at the back of this handbook.  From 2016 to the present we received a Gold award for our accomplishments.  We are very proud of these awards which show dedication to the families of our community.

In addition to the above, we have achieved a Level 2 on the State of Maine Quality Rating and Improvement System.  The goal of The Neighborhood Child Care Center is to reach Level 4 once again.  This allows families to receive extra tax incentives.  Our Level 2 certificate number is 2767.
